KAASHIDHOO - THE ISLAND OF COCONUT TREES
Kaashidhoo is one of the 1192 Maldivian islands in the middle of Indian Ocean.
The name Kaashidhoo literally means 'coconut island'. 'Kaashi' means coconut and 'dhoo' means island in Dhivehi Language. Kaashidhoo is located at the nothern tip of Male' Atoll. However it is geographically an atoll by itself. It stays alone as a separate coral atoll. It is the biggest island in Male' Atoll and is the biggest among the islands north to Male'.
KAASHIDHOO - THE AGRICULTURAL ISLAND
Although fishing is the major activity of the most of the islands in Maldives, Kaashidhoo is an agricultural island and fishing is never considered as a source of income for this big island. With a population of only about 2000 people, Kaashidhoo has more than enough space to do farming in a large scale.
Kaashidhoo is the island from which most of the coconuts are brough to Male'. Other agricultural produce brought to Male' from this island include chillies, cucumber, water melon, banana and papaya.
